Kenya Revenue Authority has introduced a new series of number plates in a bid to crackdown on unscrupulous motor vehicle dealers. Speaking to the press in Nairobi during the roll out of the number plates outside Times Tower, the Registrar said the move was necessary after the Authority discovered that importers of vehicles were using the number plates initially meant for motor cycles, tractors and other heavy machinery to attract clients.

He announced that the registration numbers will be in the following series; motorcycles - KMCA 001A, three wheelers - KTWA 001A, heavy machinery - KHMA 001A and tractors - KTCA 001A respectively. The new number plates will help to prevent fraud as members of the public tend to buy number plates from motor vehicle dealers without any prior knowledge that they are actually meant for certain motor vehicles. Number plates that were previously issued will be recalled and replaced at no extra charge.
