Compliance by large taxpayers is of great significance given their contribution to the economy at large and to tax revenue specifically. Moreover, the risks involved in this market segment revolve mostly around complex tax planning arrangements that seek to exploit the grey areas within tax law. Additionally, the issues are compounded by the affinity to stretch tax incentives to the maximum, a process which leads to recurrent queries on interpretation.

Because of these revenue risks, the large taxpayer segment usually attracts relatively intense audit effort. Notwithstanding this and as part of LTO's wider service improvement initiatives, audits are planned in order to cause minimum inconvenience or disruption to taxpayers and their business program.

A review of our case selection methodology is also in place to ensure equitable treatment for all taxpayers. LTO also provides regular highlights on relevant developments affecting taxation at the local, regional or international levels in addition to providing online query resolution facilities.
