KRA MARKS END OF YEAR IN COLOUR
17 th December 2005
Music and excitement filled the air at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi as Kenya Revenue Authority staff celebrated the end of a challenging year.
Members of the KRA Board of Directors, led by Chairman Leonard Mwangola, joined the management and staff at the party, which extended into the early hours of the night.
“It is important that we come together as a family at a time like this, because the more we work as a team, the higher the achievement and the more we find personal fulfilment in our work,” Commissioner General M. G. Waweru said in his speech.
During the year, KRA has facilitated training and development opportunities for staff of all cadres in its effort to become a learning organisation.
Expansion of the training workforce at the KRA Training School and facilities is taking place at a fast pace to ensure more professional courses with more value-added certificates using Kenyan and international expertise.
“KRA also wants to be known as a caring organisation,” Mr. Waweru said in reference to a new medical scheme that caters for both in-patient and outpatient cases, “Very soon, staff and their families will be able to walk into selected hospitals, all over Kenya, and get treatment without paying any money.”
He urged them to maintain high standards of integrity, noting that the Kenya Bribery Index released a few weeks ago by the Kenya Chapter of Transparency International showed that KRA was one of the organisations that had improved significantly in this area.
On his part, Mr. Mwangola said: “I am very proud to chair the Board of an organisation that stands tall in the country, an organisation that truly has no peer in terms of the achievements we have made.”
Both the Board Chairman and Commissioner General wished the staff happy holidays and a safe return at the beginning of the year.
The party was organised by the Human Resources Department as one way of motivating staff and developing teamwork.
The head of Human Resources, Mr. Michael A. Onyura said that staff had worked very hard during the year, and this needed to be appreciated.
