Integrated Tax Management System (ITMS) Piloting Commences

KRA’s Commissioner of Support Services Mr. Mumo Matemu (centre) accompanied by members of staff during the unveiling of the KRAOnline services at Times Tower, Nairobi on Friday 19th December 2008.

Kenya Revenue Authority commenced piloting of the Integrated Tax Management System (ITMS) on 5th December with the pilot run for e- registration of taxpayers.

This has gone on very smoothly and so far 44 taxpayers have been registered through the new system.

During the piloting period the new system will run parallel to the current system. The piloting is still confined to Nairobi. By January 2009 we plan to roll this out to large, Domestic Taxes Department (DTD) stations in other KRA regions.

E-filing piloting kicked off well with East African Portland Company, Safaricom and Kenya Breweries being the pioneer e-filing firms.

They successfully registered as   users in the ITMS and proceeded successfully to file their November 2008 VAT 3 returns electronically.

Piloting for this module will continue in a controlled environment with access available only to the pilot firms.

After the pilot period, the system will be rolled out to other KRA regions,

We are putting an operational support framework in place to ensure that the operation is smoothly managed.

Amongst the key items in our implementation framework is training. This will be done to both the staff and the users. A detailed plan will be communicated to all once finalised.

More thanks goes to all the staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure the project objectives are achieved.
