| The Commissioner of Income
Tax Mr. Jack N. Ranguma has through a public notice informed all
taxpayers (individual and corporate) that the Year 2003 Income Tax
Returns can now be downloaded from the KRA web site.
The returns are due on or before 30th June 2004. However, returns
for corporate bodies (IT2C) have to be printed on A3, 80 gramme
paper with a colour printer to benefit from the download. Only originals
may be submitted, since IT2C photocopies cannot be scanned. This
requirement is to facilitate scanning of the returns by the department
to expedite processing and enhance accuracy of data capture.
Returns for individuals (IT1, ITNR and IT2P) may be printed in
black and white.
Speaking at a Press Conference to announce KRA’s Revenue
Performance for the January to March 2004 Quarter and the cumulative
performance for the nine months to March 2004, the Commissioner
General of KRA, Mr. M. G.Waweru said that this year, income tax
returns will be issued from many points to avoid crowding at the
Times Tower Headquarters, Nairobi as happened in the run up to and
immediately following expiry of the June 30th 2003 deadline for
submission of Year 2002 returns.
Ensuring early availability of the returns on the web is one of
the measures taken by the department to expedite returns processing
to enhance compliance to the law and optimise revenue collection.
Commissioner Ranguma reminded taxpayers that failure to remit taxes
and submitting returns by the 30th June 2004 deadline will lead
to penalties and interest.
