The Commissioner of Domestic Taxes Department wishes to clarify that products in liquid, powder or solid forms put up in retail packing and used as cleaners, deodorizers and disinfectants for lavatories and also organic surface active preparations, auxiliary preparations and cleaning preparations put up for retail sale, whether or not containing soap, fall under tariff number 3402.20.00 and are vatable at 16%.

Therefore items known in various brand names including:

• Toilet Duck, Lifeguard, R6 toilet renovator and R1 liquid toilet cleaner.
• Harpic Flushmatic in cistern toilet cleaner.
• Harpic Active Cleaning Gel Mountain Pine.
• Harpic Active Gel Lavender.
• Harpic Active Cleaning Gel Marine Fresh
• Harpic Powder Toilet Cleaner Triple Action.
• Harpic Triple Action Powder Original.
• Harpic Lavatory Cleansing Block Green.
• Harpic Lavatory Cleansing Block Blue.
• Other similar products

 are taxable at 16%.
