Online PAYE filing

Following the successful launch of electronic filing for VAT, work is in progress to implement the module for the submission of monthly PAYE returns with a 50-strong pilot group having been selected for the exercise. A few taxpayers have successfully submitted their e-returns with the main constraint observed to be the system’s capacity to support the transmission of large data volumes.

In response to the challenge above, consideration is being given to adjustments to separate the transmission of data required for monthly employer monitoring and that needed for employee records update.  Similar considerations arose in connection with the Withholding VAT module where it is proposed to de-link the submission of data contained in supplementary schedules from the filing of the main return.

The successful roll out of the PAYE module will provide taxpayers with convenient platforms for the handling of their main monthly tax obligations and significantly ease compliance burden.
